Blade...

You know I'm a huge vampire movie fan... you also know I'm a traditionalist when it comes to vampire movies. By that I mean, I like old school vampires who can not come out in day light, fear of the cross, and the like. However, I do appreciate writers who stretch the boundaries with new ideas about the genre. Hence, the Blade movies are some of my favorite vampire thrillers. Wesley Snipes is great as the lead character Blade who is half vampire and half human. He searches through the night hunting down vampires and killing them with a silver sword, vials with a silver serum, and a silver sling blade of sorts. All three movies are action packed and have pretty good story lines to them. The following clip is from Blade 2 and is a fight scene betweeen Snipes and Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Beauty and the Beast). Good clip and great movie. Enjoy!

New Review...

Quick note... new review of the movie See No Evil in the middle of my blog. Stared the wrestler Kane and it was pretty intense. Check it out!

Lon Chaney, Jr.

I guess I'm covering all the bases with my classic horror kick now that I'm showing this clip of the 1935 movie The Wolf Man. I've watched this movie many, many times and I have to say that the classic movies are really the best. The writing, acting (for the most part), tension, terror, and fear are all there. No CGI (computer generated images)... don't get me wrong, I like some in a movie, but there are some movies that depend on them way to much. I AM Legend for one with Will Smith is an example of a movie that could have used real people instead of the CGI crap. CGI does not look real for the most part and until new technology comes out to make it look better, then I'm not a fan of it. Back to my point... Lon Chaney, Jr's dad was know as the man of a thousand faces for his use of diguises. However, Jr was without a disguise more often than in one. A long movie career in classics like The Wolf Man, Of Mice and Men, and The Defiant Ones. Horror, drama, westerns, and comedy, Lon Chaney, Jr. could do them all, and do them all well. A movie career that spanned almost 40 years from 1932 to 1971. Truly, Lon Chaney, Jr was a classic American actor... check out the clip from 1935... The Wolf Man.

Boris Karloff

Boris Karloff is one of my favorite classic horror actors. This clip from the movie Frankenstein is a good mix of the 1931 classic movie. It is set to the music of Edgar Winter Group and their song "Frankenstein" from the 70's. As I have stated before, Boris Karloff outshined Bela Lugosi in the horror genre in the early 30's and had a very productive movie career. The facial expressions and animated body movements needed no words to express the pain the monster felt. I love the old classic horror films. They scared you without all the gore of the movies today. Tension, terror, and fear ruled the early horror films. Great clip and great song to go along with it! Enjoy!

30 Days of Night...

This is one of the most frightening scenes from a great Vampire movie, 30 Days of Night. I thought this was one of the most original vampire movies I've ever seen. Vampire movies... I should say GOOD vampire movies are a passion of mine. I don't like campy, silly, stupid horror movies at all, but I do appreciate some comic relief in a good horror movie. I can only hope that my book gets published and that someone out there wants to make it a movie, because I can promise you that the book will make a great vampire movie... we'll just have to wait and see, won't we. Enjoy the clip and if you haven't seen this movie, you really ought too.

Hannibal Lecter...

Hannibal Lecter is one of the most interesting "horror" characters of our generation. You have a serial killer who is intelligent, knowledgeable, scarred from youth, and basically a cannibal. This scene from the movie Hannibal has two of my favorite actors, Anthony Hopkins and Ray Liotta. All the movies that deal with Lecter are pretty good films, with Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal being the best. These movies are terrifying because the "bad guy" is not an alien, a supernatural entity, or super-human... he's just a man with an insatiable appetite for brains. There are many horror chareacters over the last 100 years, but none are more frightening than Hannibal Lecter... enjoy the video!

How to post a comment...

I was thinking that there may be some of you that don't know how to make a comment, so I thought I would put a post up explaining how too. At the end of each of my posts, click on "Comments". Write your comment and then scroll down to the security letters and put them in the box exactly as shown. Then scroll down to "Name". Click on the circle to the left of "Name" and then put your name in. Then just hit the publish comment and you're done! That simple. So please comment as often as you can and thanks for visiting my blog!

Another clip of Dracula...

I found another clip of Dracula on You Tube. Check it out in the middle of my blog...

Bela Lugosi... The Original Dracula!

As I mentioned on my Netflix page, the 1931 movie Dracula was the first vampire movie I remember watching as a kid. A small boy in my grandparent's basement with the door shut and the lights out being scared to death of the evil "living" dead. The impression the movie made on me forever began a fascination with vampires and the mystery of their unique power. Bram Stoker wrote such an innovative masterpiece that only the brilliant talent of Bela Lugosi could cement both book and movie into classics that have stood the test of time for generations. I put a clip of the movie in the middle of my blog. This scene is intense on many levels... the tension between two adversaries, Dracula and Van Helsing, is drama at its best. We learn a lot about the power of Dracula through mind control and Lugosi's piercing stare. The confidence Lugosi has in his persona Dracula is only mildly rebutted by the strong will of the Van Helsing character. You can almost see the respect Dracula has for Van Helsing as the two battle mentally before Van Helsing pulls out the crucifix and Dracula must flee from the battle. Great scene. Bela Lugosi never got the fame he wanted from this work. He was forever typecasted as Dracula and didn't get the roles he wanted in Hollywood. He was also very jealous of Boris Karloff because Karloff became know as the king of horror, but yet, was given many other roles in movies. I have to admit, Karloff was my favorite... but Dracula would not have been better without the great talent of Bela Lugosi.

I put a new review of the movie The Hitcher in the review section of my blog. Great horror movie... check it out!

False Prophet...

I was looking through You Tube tonight for some videos for my Netflix page when I came across the video I put in the middle of my blog. I was searching for music videos and I saw a video for Drowning Pools, Bodies (Let the Bodies hit the Floor). Great song, and I put it on my Netflix page. As I scrolled down, I saw this Benny Hinn clip put to the music of Drowning Pool's song Bodies. I guess I had to put it on my blog because I have an adversion to these TV, money grubbing, fake, lying, prophets of a different god (money), who are leading people down an unrealistic path to no where. Talk about true HORROR!!! Any way, just a beef I have that I had to share! Check out the video in the middle of my blog.

Another day...

Just a short post since I have to go into work in about 30 minutes. Watched a good movie the other night called P2. Limited release in theaters, but should get a ton of DVD action. I put a review for it in the middle of my blog in the review section. The movie is very intense and has a little bit of gore, but not too much. Worth checking out on Netflix or your local video store.

Raining this weekend... should get most of the snow gone. We still have a huge amount in our yard because we live on a corner lot and over the winter the snow was pushed and dumped in our yard... may not see our yard till June!

Tina thought I should start drawing some and putting them on my blog... interesting idea, but I know I can't compete with my son, Cory's blog. Great stuff on his site (lightnightrains), link at the bottom of my page.

I'm thinking about putting the first paragraph of my book on my blog so you can get an idea about my vampire... working on chapter 8 now and it is coming along nicely. Should be on schedule to have the book back to my teacher by June 1st. It's been a 5 year learning experience...

Borderland...

If you're a regular vistor, you know I talk about the website Fearnet.com quite often. It is one of the best horror sites I've found. Information, games, and free movies to watch are just a few of the reasons I visit this site nearly every day. Several weeks ago Fearnet previewed Horrorfest's 8 Movies to Die for. One of the movies that caught my eye was Borderland. The movie stared Rider Strong (Boy Meets World, Cabin Fever) and Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings, Rudy, The Goonies) in a minor, yet important role. The movie claims to be based on true events which nearly always adds to the interest of a film. In a nutshell, the movie is about three friends on a road trip to Mexico looking to express their hormonal needs. The Rider Strong character is kidnapped by a Voodoo like cult to be sacrificed to their god. There is a good amount of gore and the acting is very good. Sean Astin plays an evil character who is caught up in this Voodoo cult, mainly to avoid the US cops. The movie is similar to Hostal without all the T&A and is better written and directed. Tina and I watched it last night and were pleasantly surprised how good this movie is. Many of the 8 Movies to Die for over the past several years have not been that great. However, this one was quite good and I think any horror fan will enjoy this one... well worth a watch!
