The Author
Stephen Edwin King was born in Portland, Maine in 1947, the second son of Donald and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King.
Last night, Tina and I watched Desperation, a Stephen King movie. I know that the movie and the book are not one in the same. I really get annoyed by people who complain that the movie wasn't as good as the book. To me that is a stupid argument. How on earth does someone think you can put over 400 pages of a book into an hour and a half movie. Doesn't make sense to me. Any way, the movie is an OK movie with a lot of fear, tension and gore. But the interesting thing to me is the presence of God mentioned throughout the movie. The ultimate "good vs. evil" theme. The acting wasn't all that bad, but Steven Webber (Wings- TV and the remake of The Shining... terrible idea to remake The Shining!!!) as a lead actor should tell you something. It's the story that I found so interesting. Stephen King puts a lot of thought behind his works. The things that run through his mind are unbelievable at times. I told Tina last night, "How does he come up with some of the stuff he writes?" She said, "He's crazy." Well, I think you have to be a little twisted to write, read, or watch horror to begin with... case in point, ME! LOL! Imagination is a gift, but it is also a gift that is nurtured from all of our experiences. Life's lessons can be tough and how we deal with them is based on our experiences, education, and our minds. To me, Stephen King has a great mind. Carrie, The Shining, The Stand, Salem's Lot, It, Pet Cemetery...(way too many to mention), these books show the genius (I use that work respectfully, and carefully) of a mind that is not afraid to explore the deepest and darkest areas of what we fear. As in Desperation, we have a group of people with the single goal of surviving this evil. Together they are strong, separated they have weakness'. It was just a very interesting and entertaining movie to me, because I was looking for it's meaning. There's a description of the book below, as well as a copy of the official Stephen King web site. You should really check out the website. It has a ton of information on his life and all his works... good stuff!

Located off a desolate stretch of Interstate 50, Desperation, Nevada has few connections with the rest of the world. It is a place, though, where the seams between worlds are thin. Miners at the China Pit have accidentally broken into another dimension and released a horrific creature known as Tak, who takes human form by hijacking some of the town's residents. The forces of good orchestrate a confrontation between this ancient evil and a group of unsuspecting travelers who are lured to the dying town. This rag-tag band of unwilling champions is led by a young boy who speaks to God.
