WE have been on a role the past few weeks with our horror selections. It didn't start off that well with the disappointment of The Broken, but other than that... we have seen 7 decent horror movies with Perkin's 14 and The Butterfly Effect 3:Revelations being the best of the bunch so far.
Which brings us to our latest movie, Splinter. I have to admit that the beginning had a hillbilly, Wrong Turn feel within the first few minutes of the movie. Couple that with the geeky/nerd boyfriend, I thought this movie is going to be a waste of time. However, when we are introduced to the escaped convict, that is when it gets interesting. To be fair, the film kicks into high gear within the first 10 to 15 minutes and really is quite good. The convict character played by Shea Whigham was an interesting study as you move through the film. Not just your average hoodlum. The movie turned out to be very well done and the "creature" that has them trapped in the gas station is an interesting mix of parasite/zombieish, blood sucking, body consuming monster. We get quick flashes of the creature throughout, but not too overdone in my opinion. We learn that the parasite is transmitted through the creatures splinters and it takes over the body. Check out the trailer below and give this one a try!
