In honor of the many lives that have been lost to war, we honor those who have given their lives for our freedoms this Memorial Day weekend. I found a really good horror war movie that I've seen and really liked called Deathwatch. English soldiers "capture" a German trench and things just go completely wrong because of an evil force hidden in the trench. Maddness and death await those in the trench. Good movie and well worth a watch. I have the trailer for this movie at the end of this post. Just an observation, when I was younger it seened we honored our war heros much more than we do now. WWII vets were about the last group to "enjoy" the admoration of our nation. It seems to me that after that, we as a nation didn't consider the efforts of Korean, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq and the like to be worthy of our honor... I speak of our vets. Maybe because those wars/conflicts were not popular, I don't know the reason. I for one may not always agree with our leaders decisions, but the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect this nation deserve our praise and honor. To those brave ones, living and dead, I thank you and your familes for your service to this nation. Enjoy your weekend, but DON'T forget what this holiday is all about!

TFAV...1630...
Five years in the making... a teaser from my book. Enjoy...
Chapter 1
Jonathan stood in the midst of the village; a dead male Indian with a large gaping hole in his abdomen lay at his feet. Blood covered the ground. Jonathan looked at the dead man’s bowels still firmly grasped in his hand. He threw the intestines to the ground and licked the remaining blood from his fingers. With outstretched hands raised to the heavens, he screams in a voice that shook the earth, “Why God, why did this have to happen?” Jonathan looked to the sky for answers but found them not. He observed the entire landscape of the village. If not for a few dead Indian’s laying about the encampment, all seemed calm. Yes, it was calm indeed, tranquil in this vindictive massacre.
Jonathan sank to his knees and fell prostrate to the earth. Sorrow griped his soul. Sorrow for the tremendous lost he felt. How could this have happened? Why did it happen? How can I go on without her? These provocative questions gripped his soul. Jonathan began to think back, back to a time when the warmth of the suns rays beat upon his shoulders. A time before darkness ruled his world, a time before he came to this god-forsaken wilderness. Jonathan could still see the face of his mother as she looked down upon him as he lay there crying from the pain. “Jonathan, you mustn’t move if I am to help you.”
Sobbing he said, “I cannot help it mother, my leg hurts so badly.” Jonathan’s mother looked down at her son’s twisted leg with a feeling of sadness and regret. She felt sadness for his pain and regret that he must always learn things the hard way. “Jonathan, I told you not to go near that horse.”
“I know mother, I’m sorry I didn’t listen to you” Jonathan said through the tears streaming down his check.
At the age of ten, Jonathan crept up behind a neighbor’s horse and mischievously pulled at his tail. To Jonathan’s amazement, the horse reared up and kicked Jonathan in the left leg shattering several bones, leaving him screaming in pain and crying for his mother. The bones in his leg healed but he would never walk without a limp again. That seemed so long ago to Jonathan as he lay in the middle of the Indian village. Jonathan rolled over on his back and looked up into the stars, “Mother, am I destined to live with the pain of my mistakes forever?” Jonathan rose to his feet and began the long walk to his home.
Why did I come to this new world? What possible good has come from my being here… none, I tell you! Nothing but death and heartache has followed me across the Atlantic. Jonathan was in a moment of despair with nothing but the knowledge that loneliness was going to be his companion for all eternity. Eternity? How do I know the same will not happen to me… walking carefree and in a moment, gone? Jonathan felt such a horrible loss. The pain was intense. His heart felt empty and cold… it was a different kind of pain. Jonathan continued to think about the events that brought him to this new land.

The Horror of it all... Blackflies
We were working in our yard today when it happened... Blackflies!!! Those suckers were everywhere. They love swarming around your face, getting in your ears, eyes, mouth, and nose. We plastered OFF all over us and that seemed to keep them at bay for a while. The female bites because it needs the blood to lay its eggs. One thing I found interesting is that Blackflies only breed in clear, clean running water. Since New Hampshire has some of the cleanest streams and rivers in the US, we have thousands of Blackflies every spring and early summer. I tried to put a picture of this monster on this post, but I'm not sure it worked. Below is some information on what is "lovingly" called the state bird of New Hampshire.
Black Flies
Status: Common
Identification: Blsck grey, some are yellow, broad, clear wings with heavy veins, large round
eyes, with a humpbacked appearance. Large rear ends, adults look similar to small bees.
Habitat: Some species in forests, others in open areas, streams, creeks.
Food: Algae and plant particles in larval stage; blood, nectar and honeydew when adults.
Predators: Swallows, dragonflies,
Interesting/Important Facts:
-Only females are bloodsuckers.
-Livestock, pets, poultry and wildlife are severley irritated by blackfly bites.
-Some people call them "buffalo gnats" or "turkey gnats."

Timber Falls...
Letting everyone know that I have a new review on my blog (near the bottom of this page). We watched a new release the other day called Timber Falls. Basically if you've seen the movies Wrong Turn and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, then you've seen this movie only not as good as the other two. Not bad, but not great either. It crakes me up that Timbers Falls is set in the mountains of West Virginia. I grew up in West Virginia and in over 18 years of my life there, I never heard about any of the crazy people they have in this movie and also in Wrong Turn (also set in WV). People love to think all mountaineers are backwoods religious zealots killing in the name of god I guess. Any way, check out the review and if you want a really good WV crazy people movie, Wrong Turn is your best bet.

The Happening...
I saw the trailer to this movie on TV this evening and I have to say it looks awesome. I hope the video link I have at the bottom of this post works so you can see the trailer. Mark Wahlberg and John Leguizamo star in this thriller from M. Night Shyamalan. Shyamalan gave us such movies as Signs, The Village, The Sixth Sense, Lady in the Water, and Unbreakable... all movies I've seen and enjoyed. It comes out in theaters in June. I will probably wait till it comes out on DVD, but you never know. If the trailer link doesn't work so you can veiw the trailer on my blog, here is the link to MSN Video's so you can go to that site and watch the trailer.

The movie really looks good and I look forward to seeing it!

Dark Shadows... Joshua Collins makes a fateful discovery...
Last night they came and stripped the floors at the store I work in. I got to work at 7pm and left at 5:20am... long night for sure. However, I had a Dark Shadows DVD to watch. 3 1/2 hours of my favorite show of all time. It was Collection 6 Disc 1. Since I started with Collection 1 Disc 1 over a year ago, I've watched over 73 hours of the show. The writing of Dark Shadows is remarkable. The twists and turns in the story lines are woven in expertly like a basket maker weaving a beautiful wicker basket. This collection is set in 1679 or there abouts and tells the story of how Barnabas Collins becomes a vampire. The clip below is in this collection and tells of how Joshua Collins (Barnabas' dad) finds out that Barnabas is now a creature of the night. Long clip, over 9 minutes, but well worth a watch. I love this show. The imagination in the story lines is awesome. The acting at times over the top, but nevertheless great. I can't think of any movie or TV show that has captured my imagination the way Dark Shadows has. So, enjoy the clip and if you remember this show and liked it back in the late 60's, then I recommend you start with Collection 1 Disc 1 and start an exciting journey from your past. It will be a vey entertaining ride for sure!

Stephen King...
I was sitting here thinking about my vampire book that has been five years in the making and my mind drifted to Stephen King for some reason... not that I think I could ever equal his skill or imagination, but thinking about what it takes to succeed in book writing. Certainly not writing long convoluted sentences like my first one above. Any way, I was thinking how important imagination is in creating a story. Not that skill, grammar, education, and perhaps luck aren't important, but without imagination, what do you write? That's what lead my mind to Stephen King. What causes or creates a mind that can think up some of the most bizarre horror books ever? I guess that is the question for the ages. Does environment, TV, movies, parents, friends, society, school... what creates imagination? Is it a gift at birth or is it grown out of experiences? I really don't know, but I think it is key to writing for the simple fact you have to think of something to write about. Stephen King has more imagination in his pinky than most people have in their entire body. I admire him for that. Horror is not his only genre, look at The Shawshank Redemption book for one. One of my all time favorite movies. Then you have The Shining, which is probably my favorite horror film. Talent for sure, but imagination beyond belief. Here's a clip from several Stephen King movies set to the song Thriller by Michael Jackson. The music is in sync with the clips and is a good sample of his brilliant career. Enjoy the clip... remember to pause Mytubex before looking at the clip!

A "HORROR" mother's day tribute...
Ok, I know it is mother's day and since this is a horror blog, I searched for the perfect horror movie "mom" to celebrate the day. I searched and searched until I came across this clip from several of the Psycho movies. The original Psycho was the best... the rest just tried to make money off the first one. Any way, This clip is set to the song "Mother" by Glenn Danzig. Alfred Hitchcock was awesome in the way in which he made certian scenes mute/silent in order to enhance the terror. The old horror movies are still the best... maybe I'm just an old guy, but terror and fear are more frightening in reality than pure gore. Not that I'm against gore, I'm not... but a great horror movie brings tension and fear together to scare the living daylights out of you. Back to the theme of the day... Mother's Day. To all the mom's out there, (Happy mother's day Tina! I love you!), I hope you have a very special day. To my mom, thanks for all you've done for me in my 49 years of life. Everyone, enjoy the clip!

Identity...
John Cusak is a great actor. He did an awesome job in the movies 1408, The Contract (with Morgan Freeman), Runaway Jury (with Gene Hackman), Con Air (with Nicolas Cage), and my personal favorite Identity. One of my other favorite actors is in Identity, Ray Liotta. This movie has so many twists and plot turns that you are totally wrapped up in this film. It is a thriller with a little horror twist to it. Cusak is a very gifted actor and has an intensity about him that draws you to his characters in every movie I mentioned eariler. Identity is the type of movie that you can not take your eyes off of. Every detail of the movie means something to the overall plot. It is a movie that holds your interest throughout and makes you care about what is going on. The plot has about 10 people being trapped at a roadside motel in terrible weather and must work together to stay alive. Someone is killing them off one by one and fear reigns within the cast to solve this before it's their time to die. This Movie truly is a thriller and is one of the best movies I've ever watched. Below is the short trailer from the film to give you an idea of what this movie has to offer. It is well worth a watch!

Mytubex.com...
Don't be surprised when you open my page and music begins playing. I found this cool site called Mytubex.com. You can put clips from movies, videos, music, or anything on YouTube and several other video sites on your blog. If it's in a video and it's on the web, it can be on your blog and you can have many clips that anyone looking at your blog can choose from. It's easy to set up and just as easy to put on your blog. On my Netflix page I have all music videos. On this blog I have horror movie clips from Hellraiser, The Shining, Wishmaster, 30 days of Night, Skinwalkers, Underworld, and my favorite... Benny Hinn. OK, Benny Hinn isn't in a horror movie, but I could not pass this one up. In my mind Benny Hinn is a false prophet sucking the life AND money out of the people he is supposed to be "saving". The clip is set to the music of Drowning Pool's song, Bodies (Let the Bodies Hit the Floor)... great song and it fits so well with the clip. The Mytubex post is in the middle of my blog, so scroll down and view as many clips as you can. Many are set to music, but most are not. You can visit my Netflix page and check out my music videos... be warned :) I like heavy, hard hitting music, so not for the faint of heart. I put the link at the end of this post. There's a few other videos on that page that my friend Elise sent me from the movies Scarface and The Godfather...very cool. I also have about 35 music and horror movie videos you can check out in my video section of my Netflix page. So if you're interestted in browsing the web, check it out.
