New review of my favorite horror character... PINHEAD!!! Should be no surprise about my fascination with him. Just a great horror character created by Clive Barker. Any way, there's a great clip from the movie Hellraiser at the end of this post and there's a review of the movie near the end of my blog in my movie review section. Pinhead is truly a scary character. He is pure evil through and through. The whole concept of the Hellraiser series (8 movies and counting) is great. I love horror movies and Hellraiser movies are my favorite... yes, because of Pinhead. Enjoy the clip and my review. You really ought to check out the series... it is great!

Dark Shadows...

I was off today and decided to watch Collection 6 Disc 2 (3 1/2 hours) of my favorite show ever. As I've said before. I'm obsessed with Dark Shadows. I started with Collection 1 Disc 1... Each collection has 4 disc's and each disc has 3 1/2 hours of the show. You do the math, I've watched a lot of Dark Shadows. It's a great show, actually a soap opera from the 60's. The fact it has a tormented vampire in it (Barnabas Collins), made it all the more interesting for me. Collection 6 is set in 1795 and continues the story line of how Barnabas became a vampire. Disc 2 is full of tension, thrills, and new information to heighten the story of Barnabus. I've enjoyed watching all the disc's so far... more than I did when I used to run home after school and watch the show on TV. The acting at times is way over the top, but the story lines are great. There's a promo clip at the end of this post telling the audience that the show will be going back in time and relive the beginnings of a classic vampire!

Shooms...

Interesting movie we watched last night called Shooms. The movie is set in Ireland as the backdrop to a group of American kids vacationing there to experience "trips" on mushrooms. The premise of the movie is, are the trips real or imagined??? There is plenty of tension, mildly gory, and an interesting story with a few twists thrown in for good measure. The filming of the movie in many scenes is visually dark, but there is a purpose for that... mainly deception (understood at the end). I found the acting to be fine for unknown actors. The movie is not great, but it is entertaining and worth a watch. There's a trailer at the end of this post.

Divorce/Child Support Horror...

Pardon me for a moment while I vent... There's a video of a great Jerry Reed song from way back called "She Got the Goldmine (I Got the Shaft)" at the end of this post. Check it out, it is too funny... if not for the fact it's too true for me! I've been divorced for over 7 years and my child support ended this past May. However, because I'm so far behind I still owe her over $5000. I'm not a deadbeat dad, I'm a broke dad. My ex got a slick South Carolina lawyer who just happened to be a state senator!!! Boy was I in for it! Anyway, the judge wouldn't even hear the case. We had to negotiate our divorce??? I gave her everything we had, two houses, over $30,000 between checking and savings accounts... I just wanted out. I ended up paying $600-$800 a month until my kids graduated college. My ex had sent me and email not long after I left and told me that I would never see my kids graduate, see my grandkids (none yet), walk my daughter down the aisle (not married yet), and never be a part of my kids life. For the most part that has been true, she used my kids as a weapon against me. My son told me I am dead to him. She makes more money than I do and has need of nothing. I told her I could do $100 a month until I'm done. That's not good enough for her, it will take too long to pay her off that way. She wants to take me to court... I guess if that happens, I will never step foot in South Carolina again! Well, whatcha going to do!!! Somethings she not only gets the goldmine, she gets all the gold as well. The horror of it all!:) Poor angry, bitter, resentful, sad woman. I really feel sorry for someone who can't let some things go. Thanks for letting me vent!

Mirrors...

I really enjoy the "haunted house" type of movie. While this movie doesn't completely fit that type, it does have many of the elements. I saw this on one of my horror sites I look at nearly every day... http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/
The other site I love is... http://www.fearnet.com/ Both of these sites are GREAT for horror fans. Free movies, interviews, trailers, breaking news, and just everything you need to know about horror movies. The movie follows a security guard at a high-end department store who is trying to solve mysterious deaths that are taking place in front of the stores mirrors. Eventually, strange events begin to happen at his ex-wife's house involing the mirrors in her home. Kiefer Sutherland stars as the security guard and I'm sure he does a great job because he is such a talented actor. The movie comes out August 15th and I so look forward to seeing it. Check out the trailer at the end of this post.

The Eye...

It seems to me that there is a vast number of people on Netflix who love foreign films... it is almost like their rabid about them. I for one hate subtitles and find them to be very distracting when I'm trying to watch a movie. I've seen a few, but did not enjoy them at all because of having to "read" a movie instead of just watching it. I'm sure the debate will rage on... The Eye is a remake of a Japanese movie from several years ago. I have my Netflix review of this movie near the end of my blog page. Also, at the end of this post the trailer for the movie is there for your viewing. The movie was pretty good with a lot of tension, which I love. You can read my review and watch the trailer for all the details.

Happy Father's Day...

There's a short campy clip from the horror movie Creepshow that gives a "scary" Father's Day message at the end of this post. Sorry, it was all I could find on You Tube. Any way, this is Father's Day and I would like to wish all the father's out there a great day, especially my dad.

Captivity...

Tina and I watched a movie that was recommended by my friend Elise. Captivity is really not another attempt at the "torture/porn" genre that has infected the horror genre over the past several years. We've always had this in horror, especially in the 70's and 80's. Hostel was a movie that I thought was so full of itself that I really couldn't stand it. In the "old" days of horror, if the youth of America were having sex in a movie, then the "boogieman" got them and they died. The way it is now, they throw sex in and slap you in the face with it to the point of ridicules. I'm no prude, but whatever happened to the days when tension, mood, music, or in the Hitchcock days... silence, was what made a movie scary. I love movies where you feel as if there's a weight on your chest because of the tension. The writing, music, and direction are so important in making a movie great. Any one can throw in T&A and gore, but it doesn't make a movie good or bad. The story, editing, acting, and direction all have to come together to make a film great. That's why many movies today are just so poor. I know I sound obsessed with movies, and to a certain degree... it's true. But horror is my favorite genre and I love to be scared to death watching a tension filled horror flic! Captivity is a pretty good tension filled horror film... check out the trailer!

The Mist...

Stephen King, as I have said before, has the most unusal imagination any person could have. I'm so looking forward to seeing this movie. I love how King uses a simple thing like a mist to create such an interesting thriller. I have a trailer for the movie at the end of this post. My friend Elise saw this movie the other night and said it was awesome. I have enjoyed most of the movies I've seen that have been made from Stephen King novels. The Shining being my favorite. The list is HUGE... Carrie, Secert Window, 1408, The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption (my all-time favorite movie!), Misery, Storm of the Century, The Stand, Stand By Me, IT, The Dead Zone, Red Rose, Maximum Overdrive, Pet Sematary, Salem's Lot, Firestarter, Dreamcatcher... there are many more, but these are the ones I've seen. He really is a master of his craft. Enjoy the trailer...

The Deaths of Ian Stone...

This movie is from the After Dark Horror Fest collection. I put a review of the movie in my review section of my blog... down toward the bottom of my blog. I've seen several movies from this collection over the past several years and this one was one of the most interesting. The concept is somewhat like the Bill Murray movie Groundhog Day, only to the degree that the Ian Stone character wakes up everyday to a different part of his life. Other than that, it is totally a unique horror movie. There are many twist and turns in the movie that early on are a little confusing, but nearly all questions you might have will get answered. The movie is original in so many ways and well acted. Giving too much away would be wrong to those who might want to see it. I put the trailer at the bottom of this post and highly suggest watching it. You will enjoy this movie if you are a true horror fan. It is well worth a watch!

Haven't been on my blog mainly because of work and also watching the Red Sox. Too many things pulling me in too many directions. During baseball season, Tina and I don't watch as many movies as normal for us because we are such Red Sox fans. We watched two movies last night with a few friends and we didn't get to bed till nearly 3am. Because I close (work 11:15am-9:15pm) three nights a week at my job (drug store retail), I tend to stay up late and watch a lot of movies. So many of my two days off are spent "playing" on my computer... my blog, Netflix, and fantasy sports. I do spend time on my book, but not as much as I should. It's still a work in progress...
