Here's another After Dark Horrorfest film coming to theaters January 9th. As I watched the trailer, it reminded me a lot of Wrong Turn. Now, whether it is as good as Wrong Turn was, we will just have to wait and see. These type of movies have their appeal because of a few important elements. First, we have to actually care about the main characters. We have to want them to survive. Otherwise, if we want them all to die, then we will not feel their fear as much and what's the point of watching. Second, there has to be a very small element of hope that someone will make it. Sometimes it's not all that important who survives, but that someone does. Fear, tension, and hope play a big role in a movie of this nature. If well acted, and a decent story line exist, then you have the makings of a really good backwoods horrorfest! I really hope this one has what it takes... only time will tell. The movie comes out in theaters the week of January 9th as part of the 8 Films To Die For series from After Dark Films. Check out the trailer at the end of this post and judge for yourself.
Dying Breed
(2008) R
Eight years ago, Nina's (Mirrah Foulkes) sister disappeared in the Australian backcountry while searching for the mythical Tasmanian tiger. With only one clue -- a photograph of a mysterious paw print -- in hand, Nina sets out to continue her sister's work. But something else awaits Nina and her team: cannibalistic descendents of a 19th-century psycho known as "the Pieman." Leigh Whannell (Saw) and Nathan Phillips co-star in this savage thriller.
