The Author
Stephen Edwin King was born in Portland, Maine in 1947, the second son of Donald and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King.
Last night, Tina and I watched Desperation, a Stephen King movie. I know that the movie and the book are not one in the same. I really get annoyed by people who complain that the movie wasn't as good as the book. To me that is a stupid argument. How on earth does someone think you can put over 400 pages of a book into an hour and a half movie. Doesn't make sense to me. Any way, the movie is an OK movie with a lot of fear, tension and gore. But the interesting thing to me is the presence of God mentioned throughout the movie. The ultimate "good vs. evil" theme. The acting wasn't all that bad, but Steven Webber (Wings- TV and the remake of The Shining... terrible idea to remake The Shining!!!) as a lead actor should tell you something. It's the story that I found so interesting. Stephen King puts a lot of thought behind his works. The things that run through his mind are unbelievable at times. I told Tina last night, "How does he come up with some of the stuff he writes?" She said, "He's crazy." Well, I think you have to be a little twisted to write, read, or watch horror to begin with... case in point, ME! LOL! Imagination is a gift, but it is also a gift that is nurtured from all of our experiences. Life's lessons can be tough and how we deal with them is based on our experiences, education, and our minds. To me, Stephen King has a great mind. Carrie, The Shining, The Stand, Salem's Lot, It, Pet Cemetery...(way too many to mention), these books show the genius (I use that work respectfully, and carefully) of a mind that is not afraid to explore the deepest and darkest areas of what we fear. As in Desperation, we have a group of people with the single goal of surviving this evil. Together they are strong, separated they have weakness'. It was just a very interesting and entertaining movie to me, because I was looking for it's meaning. There's a description of the book below, as well as a copy of the official Stephen King web site. You should really check out the website. It has a ton of information on his life and all his works... good stuff!
Desperation

Clive Barker's Book of Blood...
It would be redundant of me to say that I am a HUGE fan of Clive Barkers. If Clive Barker never did anything other than the original Hellraiser, he would still be a genius in my mind. I've seen some information, including the trailer below, on the new movie Book of Blood which should be coming out soon. The movie is based on a series of books that Barker wrote around 1985 titled Books of Blood, with Midnight Meat Train as one of the volumes as well. There is a total of 6 books in this series. You can go to his official website for all you ever wanted to know about the great Clive Barker. This movie is so creepy...
SYNOPSIS
Paranormal researcher Mary Florescu's investigations lead her to Simon McNeal, a college student who appears to be channelling messages from the dead. As their erotic relationship develops the line between the worlds of the living and the dead become blurred and finally collapse in a stunning and astonishing climax.

2:13 The Movie...
Tina and I love serial killer movies. I know, sick... but there's a lot of tension and terror in them and that seems to satisfy the horror fix we need. I saw information on this movie a few days ago, but the only trailer I found was on Bloody-Disgusting.com. If you click on the title of this post it will bring you to the trailer. Also, you can copy the link of the movies website and get much more info on the cast, trailer, blog, and pictures. The description of the movie is below as well. The movie looks really intense and is now in post production. It will be hitting theaters sometime in 2009. When I have more on this movie, I will let you know. Check out the links and view the trailer. Should be a good indie serial killer movie. BTW, Kevin Pollack is in this movie and he's a really great supporting actor. I look forward to seeing this one!
A police profiler (Mark Thompson) has just returned from psychiatric leave only to find that he is caught up in a serial killer's rampage. Fighting to keep buried the trauma of his childhood, he must confront the all too-familiar flesh masks that the killer leaves on the faces of his victims. He must face his own demons along with the killer to save his small eroding existence.

Bram Stoker...
Abraham "Bram" Stoker (8 November 1847 – 20 April 1912) was an Irish writer of novels and short stories, who is best known today for his 1897 horror novel Dracula. During his lifetime, he was better known for being the personal assistant of the actor Henry Irving and the business manager of the Lyceum Theatre in London, which Irving owned. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
With all the hype over the movie/books Twlight, I felt it important to look at the man who gave us the greatest vampire of all time, Dracula. Some say that he may have been influenced by the Romanian ruler Vlad the Impaler, and others say he may have read Carmilla (1872), by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu another Irish writer who wrote a vampire novella in 1872. Below is some information on Le Fanu...
Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu (1814-73), "The Invisible Prince", Irish journalist and writer, father of the Victorian ghost story. While he is best known for his novel about the "venerable, bloodless, fiery-eyed" uncle, Uncle Silas (1864) it was his vampire novella Carmilla (1872) that would contribute to defining the horror genre and probably influenced Bram Stoker in his writing of Dracula. Taken from The Literature Network
Stoker wrote so many literary works over his lifetime... just a sample are listed below. Many are non-fiction works including one that gave details (job description) for a clerk of the Petty Sessions. What a very interesting and smart man Stoker was. He was the business manager of the Lyceum Theater in London. The theater was owned by Stoker's friend Henry Irving, a well known actor of the day. Stoker's position gave him the ability to travel all over the world with Irving. It was on a vacation that the inspiration for Dracula came to Stoker. Stoker had been studying European folklore and vampire stories for eight years before penning the now classic Dracula. One interesting tidbit concerning the time frame that Stoker was living in London was the mystery of Jack the Ripper. Jack the Ripper did his "work" in 1888 and may have continued to 1891. I'm not sure why this is so interesting to me, but I wonder if that may have influenced Stoker as well. Nevertheless, Any one that loves vampires owes a great debt to Mr. Abraham Stoker. He laid the foundation for one of the scariest villains in the horror genre. Thank you Mr. Stoker!
Novels:
The Snake's Pass (1890)
The Watter's Mou' (1895)
The Shoulder of Shasta (1895)
Dracula (1897)[1]
Miss Betty (1898)
The Mystery of the Sea (1902)
The Jewel of Seven Stars (1903)
The Man (aka: The Gates of Life) (1905)
Lady Athlyne (1908)
The Lady of the Shroud (1909)
The Lair of the White Worm (1911)

Queen of the Damned...
One of my favorite vampire movies... this is so dark and visual, with a creepy sense of dread throughout. Taken from an Anne Rice novel, it follows the lead character, Lestat as he becomes enamored with the rock star world and brings to light the vampire lifestyle. This of course makes him a marked man in the vampire community because they want to remain in the shadows. The movie is so well made and the acting is believable to the extent that you understand the characters and their motives. Not only is this a really good vampire movie, but the soundtrack is Awesome! I have it on CD and listen to it often when I'm in a dark mood... which is often. It was produced by Jonathan Davis of Korn and really has a dark and sinister mood to it. I love it! The song titles and artist are below. Check it out! I also have a video trailer for the movie at the end of this post. This is really a worthwhile movie and one I highly recommend for all you vampire fans out there!

Chiller Theater...
As a few of you know, I grew up outside of Charleston, WV in the town of St. Albans. Nearly every weekend I would spend at my grandparent's house in Charleston. Some of my best memories were watching TV in my grandparent's basement on Saturday night at 11:30pm. Chiller Theater brought to me some of the scariest movies from days gone by. Looking back on them now, they would be considered "B" horror by today's standards. Nevertheless, those old movies fostered my love of the horror genre. There was Chiller, Double Chiller, and Triple Chiller. So, there were many a Saturday night that I would be up past 3am watching three different horror movies. Those were the days! If you were a kid in the 60's and 70's, I hope you had the opportunity to see Chiller Theater. It really was something to look forward to every Saturday night. There's a montage video from the show below... check it out and remember...
There's also a clip from a Huntington, WV newspaper talking about Chiller Theater...
Public Access 20 Celebrating Halloween with Classic Horror Hosts
By Tony Rutherford
Huntingtonnews.net Entertainment Editor
Huntington, WV (HNN) – Beginning in the early 1950s, television stations across the country began a tradition of having a ghoulish, often hilarious, creature introduce late night horror features. “Vampira” pioneered by the late Maila Nurmi led to numerous imitators across the country, including John “the cool Ghoul” Zacherley in New York. In fact, even at the age of 90, he still comes to conventions.
WSAZ-TV in the late 50s had “Gaylord” portrayed by Fred Briggs, who went on to become an NBC news correspondent.
By the 70s, corporate owned television saw the end of regionally produced local programming. WOWK ran Elvira, a syndicated hostess of the dark, for several years, choosing the syndicated purchase over a locally aspiring host (and crew) known as “Dr. Cadaver.” The Doctor did occasionally promote Red Cross Blood drives and hosted a New Year’s Eve Marathon on WSAZ-TV.

2012 The Movie...
Another in a long line of "end of the world" type movies. The teaser trailer doesn't give a lot of information, but it does look interesting. The reason I will watch this movie is John Cusack. He's one of my favorite actors and the film Identity which he starred in with Ray Liotta and Amanda Plummer is one of my favorites! Amanda Plummer stars with him in this film as well. I find these type of movies interesting because people are actually looking for a reason for the world to end. Eminent doom seems to be a human instinct, maybe it is for survival... I don't know. Either way, this ought to be a pretty good movie. It comes to theaters sometime in 2009... well before the end of the world... are you ready???
SYNOPSIS:
A family goes on vacation in December 2012, just as the Mayan calendar is coming to a close. Over the decades, many have prophesied that the world will end when the ancient calendar ceases on Dec. 21, 2012.
Cast and Director:
Directed by:
Roland Emmerich
Starring:
John Cusack
Chiwetel Ejiofor
Oliver Platt
Danny Glover
Woody Harrelson
Amanda Peet
Thandie Newton

The Broken Imago...
This does look like an interesting film. I'm sure all the environmentalist will love this movie, but I will like it if it is well made and entertaining. There have been a few movies about Nature fighting back, The Happening for one. These type of films do send a message and that message is that we need to protect the environment or it will "fight back". Will it really??? I don't have the answer to that one, but I do think there are things we can do that help the world we live in. I'm not an extremist like some people, but we could do a much better job of keeping our environment a healthy place to live. Either way, this looks like a good horror movie from the synopsis and the trailer. Check out the trailer and look for this movie to be coming out soon!

John Carpenter...
John Carpenter is a legend. We use that term a lot when describing people of great talent who achieve beyond a normal person's means. Not only a gifted director, he usually does the music score for his films as well. Writing, directing, musically gifted, and a pioneer are what sets this film director apart from the pack. I've listed several of my favorite Carpenter movies along with a description of what each movie is about in this post. I highly recommend watching every one of these gems. For entertainment value, you will not find any better movies. This is just a small tribute to a very talented man.
Halloween (1978)
The first flick in the trilogy from director John Carpenter, Halloween almost single-handedly invented the 1980s slasher genre. Escaped lunatic Michael Myers (no, not the Austin Powers actor) goes on a murderous baby-sitter-slaying rampage on Halloween. Only baby sitter Jamie Lee Curtis (the quintessential scream queen) and psychiatrist Donald Pleasence can stop him.
The one that got him noticed... Halloween is a true classic. I believe it was made on a budget of $300,000 and grossed over 50 million! Carpenter was able to do anything he wanted at that point. Originally titled The Babysitter Murders , the name was changed when the release date was set for October 31st.
Vampires (1998)
Jack Crow (James Woods) leads a team of vampire hunters in director John Carpenter's Western-themed movie about bloodthirsty ghouls. Jack and his sidekick, Montoya (Daniel Baldwin), destroy a nest of vampires, but as they head off to celebrate, they're set upon by master vampire Jan Valek (Thomas Ian Griffith). Joined by Katrina (Sheryl Lee) and Father Guiteau (Tim Guinee), the two learn the archvillian's plans and set out to bring Valek to heel.
This is one of my VERY favorite John Carpenter movies! Of course I love vampires, but James Woods is a great actor and plays the smart-ass vampire killer to a tee! If you haven't seen this movie, you really should!
They Live
In this consumer culture parody, professional wrestler "Rowdy" Roddy Piper plays an unemployed working stiff who finds a pair of sunglasses that let him see the world as it truly is. Billboards carry subliminal messages such as "Submit to Authority," and yuppies are aliens bent on subduing the human race. Before you can say, "Die, yuppie scum!" Piper grabs a gun and starts blasting.
I love this movie! I'm really not a fan of campy horror, but Roddy Piper kicks butt in this movie. He was one of my favorite "wrestlers" back in the day because he was a "bad" good guy. This movie is full of action and IMO, the entertainment value is high!
Big Trouble in Little China
To end a curse that has made him immortal, a 2,000-year-old magician must marry a woman with green eyes. He chooses the fiancee of Jack Burton's (Kurt Russell) best friend. Taking it upon himself to save the day, Jack embarks on a rescue attempt with Gracie Law (Kim Cattrall) at his side that takes them under San Francisco's Chinatown into a dark world filled with supernatural creatures and spectacular action.
A venture away from horror with Kurt Russell. A very good "fantasy" movie!
Escape from New York
Soaring crime rates cause the United States to turn the city of New York into a maximum-security prison. Unfortunately for the president of the United States (Donald Pleasence), that's precisely where he lands when he's forced to bail out of a crashing Air Force One. Condemned criminal and former war hero Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) rescues the chief executive -- but the president must promise to grant Plissken his freedom in return.
Another venture away from the horror genre. Kurt Russell brings back the Snake character to save the President of the United States. I really like this movie!
In the Mouth of Madness
When popular horror writer Sutter Cane (Jürgen Prochnow) goes missing, his publisher hires investigator John Trent (Sam Neill) to find him. Trent tracks Cane to a small New England town: the supposedly fictional Hobb's End, which is filled with nightmare scenes right out of the author's books -- from murders to monstrous transformations. Have Cane's fans gone psychotic and begun imitating his writings, or are his "novels" really nonfiction?
This movie was not met with critical acclaim, but I really enjoyed it!
My belief that people are inherently full of it is so eloquently expressed by Maxine!

Which Classic Horror Movie Actor are you most like?
http://www.quizilla.com/quizzes/3675711/which-classic-horror-movie-actor-are-you-most-like
Elise told me there was a problem taking the quiz. Just click on the title or go to the link above to take the quiz!
I was looking for something to post in the classic horror genre when I came upon this little quiz. You can take the quiz right on my blog post. I hope if you do take the time to take the quiz that you leave me a comment on who you were most like in the classic horror actor world. In a way, it was no surprise to me that I am more like Bela Lugosi. I tend to be more of a loner and I admit, I'm not really a people person. However, unlike Bela, I don't have a drug addiction... OK, maybe cigarettes. We all have our vices, doesn't mean I'm proud of it. Any way, it is an interesting little quiz and I hope to hear from many of you as to who you are most like!
Frank's Results:
Bela Lugosi.
Not one of the easiest people to get along with, Bela Lugosi's career peaked with his performance in Tom Browning's "Dracula". After that, it was difficult for Lugosi to get other roles because of his heavy Hungarian accent. Towards the end of his life, he was drug-addicted, but working happily with his dear friend Ed Wood. Never forget, Bela Lugosi *is* Count Dracula.
Best Movies: Dracula (1931), White Zombie (1932), The Black Cat (1934)

My Son, Cory Godbey's Blog...
I wanted to digress from a horror post, because I wanted to share a very special blog with you. My son, Cory has had a blog for a lot longer than I have. It was after reading his blog for quite sometime that I decided that I wanted to do a blog. So I guess you could say, he was my inspiration. His blog is listed on my blog, but often, people don't look at blog lists unless the blog name really sticks out to them. I decided to give all of you a reason to look at his blog. Cory is a very talented artist. He works for Portland Studios in Greenville, SC. http://www.portlandstudios.com/ This is their website. They are illustrators, animators, and much more.
His blog is filled with his work, both finished product and doodles at times. He has illustrated children's books, book covers, worked on animated TV commercials, and even published a picture book. The book is called Ticket and is available for sell on his blog. There is a You Tube video below of the many pictures that he drew for your viewing. I'm very proud of Cory and I wish him continued success in a very difficult field to make it in... but so far so good!
I guess in a way there is a "horror" aspect to this post. Cory's mom and I were divorced 8 years ago and things have been very straind since then. Divorce can be so much harder on the children then the parents. It was a relief for me to get out of his mom's life... I never intended to be out of my children's life. Their mom had other ideas and made it nearly impossible for me to see them. The fact that I moved to New Hampshire and they live in South Carolina didn't help either. I'm hopeful that both Cory and Courtney will find it in their hearts to forgive me for hurting them and tearing a rip in their family life. I do hold hope that they will and things can be repaired before it is too late. Enough of that... check out Cory's blog and the video clip of his book... good stuff!

Estate of Panic...
I was really looking forward to this show after seeing previews and all the info on several websites I visit. Tina and I watched it last night on the SciFi Channel and the show did NOT disappoint. It is one of the few reality shows that I really enjoy. I put some information as to what the show is all about in the middle of this post. There were many times while watching the show last night that I could feel the tension these contestants were feeling. A few of the "traps" they had to fight through were searching for money in a room that was filling with water and snakes! Another one was a room where the ceiling and walls were closing in on the contestants while each is trying to find as much money as possible. The final contestant won over $28,000. It is a really a great show and I highly recommend it! The host of the show is an actor named Steve Valentine (which is too funny to me because that is my cousin's name!) He does a pretty good job as the creepy host to his guest. The show works because it has fast movement to it, it preys on the fears of it contestants, and there is a lot of tension to each part of the "game". The video clip below is a series of several commercials for the show. You should really check this show out! It is on the SciFi Channel Wednesdays at 10pm!
The host: Steve Valentine
There's no place like this home. Estate of Panic turns nightmares into reality and pushes phobias to the limit.
Each week, a new group of contestants enter the estate searching for money hidden inside of booby-trapped rooms. The walls in one cave in, creating a hopelessly small space. Can the contestants survive it? Then thousands of creepy, crawling bugs line the walls and floor of another room, and flooding water rises by the second in another.
Throughout it all, contestants must remain calm because if they panic, they won't get paid.
The game begins with seven contestants who compete in three nerve-wracking challenges. After each challenge two are eliminated and their winnings are added back into the prize pot. The last person standing faces a final challenge in the Vault Room.
In Estate of Panic it's winner-take-all — if players can overcome their fears.

The Lodger...
This film will be coming out in late December this year. It is a remake of a 1927 Alfred Hitchcock movie of the same name. It was one of Hitchcock's first movies and is considered to be just an average film. The trailer below is for the remake. The synopsis below gives all the details and cast. It is basically a "Jack The Ripper" type of movie where the killer uses methods that were used by The Ripper in London in the late 1800's. The trailer looks pretty good. I find these type of movies to be more thrillers than horror, but the graphic violence tends to put it in the horror genre. This movie has potential and hopefully it will pull it off and be a very good horror/thriller. Johnny Depp played in a Ripper type movie called From Hell (2001) and is a pretty good movie. The Ripper is an interesting character because he was never caught... that's what makes him unique in criminal history. So check out the trailer for The Lodger and look for it in December.
SYNOPSIS
Alfred Molina, Hope Davis, and Simon Baker star in a terrifying adaptation of the book on which Alfred Hitchcock's silent classic is also based. THE LODGER follows a grizzled detective on the trail of a ruthless killer intent on slaughtering prostitutes along West Hollywood's Sunset Strip.
It appears that the murderer's grisly methods are identical to that of London's infamous 19th century psychopath Jack the Ripper - a relentless¬ serial killer who was never caught by police. To make matters worse, the detective soon notices the parallels between the crimes committed by the West Hollywood stalker and those of a serial murderer incarcerated years ago.

Blade II...
This is one of the best vampire series ever made... I know what you're thinking, is this the same guy who hates Hollywood's modern day vampire??? OK, you got me on that one. However, for what ever reason, the day walker Blade is a great vampire. I'm sure the fact that Wesley Snipes plays the lead has something to do with it as well... the guy is awesome in the role. I can't say that this is my favorite Blade movie because I really enjoy all three, but it is a great movie. I truly do appreciate the innovative approach to this movie. There's a mutant vampire that is a "super" vampire who feeds on humans as well as vampires. The story line is so well written and entertaining. You don't have to watch these movies in order because each story is fairly independent of each other. I love the role Kris Kristofferson plays as Whistler, the old "protector" of Blade. Also, Ron Perlman plays an important role of an adversary to the Blade character and the video at the end of this post is my VERY favorite battle between Snipes and Perlman... great stuff! I strongly recommend watching the entire series. We watched this movie the other night on Spike TV and even though I hate watching movies on TV because of commercials, I had to watch this one! Check out the video clip!
Summary:
A rare mutation has occurred within the vampire community. The Reaper. A vampire so consumed with an insatiable bloodlust that they prey on vampires as well as humans, transforming victims who are unlucky enough to survive into Reapers themselves. Now their quickly expanding population threatens the existence of vampires, and soon there won't be enough humans in the world to satisfy their bloodlust. Blade, Whistler (Yes, he's back) and an armory expert named Scud are curiously summoned by the Shadow Council. The council reluctantly admits that they are in a dire situation and they require Blade's assistance. Blade then tenuously enters into an alliance with The Bloodpack, an elite team of vampires trained in all modes of combat to defeat the Reaper threat. Blade's team and the Bloodpack are the only line of defense which can prevent the Reaper population from wiping out the vampire and human populations. Written by Sean Daly
After the events with Deacon Frost, Blade (Snipes) continues to destroy as many vampires as he can. A new breed of super-vampire has appeared, which becomes an even greater threat than any evil currently out there. A group of high powered vampires, led by Nyssa (Varela) and Asad (John-Jules) request help from Blade in order to take down Nomak (Goss). Can Blade work alongside the very things he vowed to destroy? Written by Film_Fan
Reapers, a new breed of vampire that feed off humans and vampires, emerge with plans for world domination and Blade must team with the Bloodpack, an elite team of vampire warriors specifically trained to hunt him, in order to defeat this new menace. Written by Vince Klortho

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)...
I was looking through a few... OK, a lot of the sites I visit nearly everyday and I saw the title to this movie. I had not seen this movie before I mentioned it to Tina a few years ago and she said it was a good movie. I then decided to get it from Netflix. We watched it and I was really impressed with the wittiness, sarcasm, and gore! It was written by Quentin Tarantino who just happens to be one twisted SOB. It amazes me that someone can come up with such a bizarre story and call themselves sane. I guess the deeper question would be, "Why did I love this movie?" The movie starts off like an "action" thriller and once Clooney and Taratino reach the Mexican bar, it goes to full-blown vampire horror. Clooney is great as the sarcastic brother to the sickly-twisted Tarantino brother. You should do yourself a favor and rent this movie. Even if you are not a genuine vampire fan, you will appreciate all this movie has to offer. A funny side note... Cheech Marin plays three different characters in this movie and is great in all three! Here's what the movie is all about and a list of the cast...
Robbers-on-the-lam Seth (George Clooney) and Richard Gecko (Quentin Tarantino) take an ex-preacher (Harvey Keitel) and his kids hostage. On a race to the Mexican border, they rendezvous at a cantina, not knowing the owners and clientele are bloodthirsty vampires. That's when director Robert Rodriguez (Desperado) abruptly switches from hostage drama to tongue-in-cheek, vampiric melee, creating a blood-stained ode to 1960s Mexican horror movies.
Cast:
George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis, Ernest Liu, Salma Hayek, Cheech Marin, Danny Trejo, Fred Williamson, Tom Savini, and Kelly Preston.
