Truly one of my favorite horror movies. There are four movies in the Wishmaster series, with the first two being the best. The third and fourth ones don't even have
Andrew Divoff (the original Wishmaster) in them. Watching the first one is a great way to spend the evening with all the lights off and a hot, streaming, butterier bowl of popcorn on your lap! I read a review for this movie and the guy lead off with the line... "Not all genies look like Barbara Eden..." (I Dream of Jeannie), what a great line! It is from the mind of Wes Craven, so you know there is quite a bit of original thought to the story line. A mysterious gem has housed the trapped genie for thousands of years, only to be released on the world in our present day. The genie grants the person who released him 3 wishes. However, be careful what you wish for... this is one evil genie and he is trying to capture as many souls as he can so he can release his evil hoard upon the earth. The movie is so unique in the horror genre and is so entertaining. Divoff is great with his "finish Line"... "As you wish"! Viewing it today after it's 11 year release is still a pleasure. While the CGI effects don't add up to the quaility of todays, it is still a vey well made movie. The acting for the most part is very good. Robert Englund (Nightmare on Elm Street), Tony Todd (Candyman), and Kane Hodder (Jason...Friday the 13th) all have roles in this film. Check out the trailer at the end of this post...
